Mere days ago I was marvelling at the fantastic job Kurt Busiek did with his tear jerking Krypto tale in this month’s Superman.
Then along comes Geoff Johns with Flashpoint issue 3 to eff it all up!!
Because that skeleton on the slab is clearly the Flashpoint universe’s Krypto! If this malarkey is setting up DC’s relaunch things don’t look good for the pooch of power. However! This issue's pasty-faced Superman doesn't look much like the Bruce Springsteen-ified version Grant Morrison is relaunching so perhaps Krypto can also make a robust come back.
Typical though isn’t it? Pesky Geoff Johns can’t resist including a scene of a “minor” character coming to a sticky end just for a cheap thrill! Remember Color Kid being blinded or Pantha’s head getting punched off? Or even Godiva getting scalped and Master of Disaster Shakedown getting killed off – and the latter two were in a JSA Classified story so no one (apart from me) noticed! Pah.
It took Krypto well over 10 years to make his comeback after Crisis. Let’s hope it’ll be a much speedier affair post Flashpoint. Sob.
